Genesis
21:8-21
8 And the child grew, and was
weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same
day that Isaac was weaned.
9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar
the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham,
mocking.
10 Wherefore she said unto Abraham,
Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the
son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with
my son, even with Isaac.
11 And the thing was very grievous
in Abraham's sight because of his son.
12 And God said unto Abraham,
Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad,
and because of thy bondwoman; in all that
Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto
her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be
called.
13 And also of the son of the
bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy
seed.
14 And Abraham rose up early in
the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water,
and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her
shoulder, and the child, and sent her away:
and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness
of Beersheba.
15 And the water was spent in
the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the
shrubs.
16 And she went, and sat her down
over against him a good way off, as it were a
bow shot: for she said, Let me not see the
death of the child. And she sat over
against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.
17 And God heard the voice of
the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of
heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee,
Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the
voice of the lad where he is.
18 Arise, lift up the lad, and
hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.
19 And God opened her eyes, and
she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled
the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.
20 And God was with the lad; and
he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became
an archer.
21 And he dwelt in the wilderness
of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the
land of Egypt.
1 What shall we say then? Shall
we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that
are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of
us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized
into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with
him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in
newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted
together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also
in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man
is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be
destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve
sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed
from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ,
we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised
from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more
dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died
unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto
God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves
to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Bow down thine ear, O LORD, hear
me: for I am poor and needy.
2 Preserve my soul; for I am holy:
O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in
thee.
3 Be merciful unto me, O Lord:
for I cry unto thee daily.
4 Rejoice the soul of thy servant:
for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
5 For thou, Lord, art good, and
ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all
them that call upon thee.
6 Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer;
and attend to the voice of my supplications.
7 In the day of my trouble I will
call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.
8 Among the gods there is none
like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works
like unto thy works.
9 All nations whom thou hast made
shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and
shall glorify thy name.
10 For thou art great, and doest
wondrous things: thou art God alone.
11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I
will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy
name.
12 I will praise thee, O Lord
my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for
evermore.
13 For great is thy mercy toward
me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the
lowest hell.
14 O God, the proud are risen
against me, and the assemblies of violent men have
sought after my soul; and have not set thee
before them.
15 But thou, O Lord, art a God
full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and
plenteous in mercy and truth.
16 O turn unto me, and have mercy
upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant,
and save the son of thine handmaid.
17 Shew me a token for good; that
they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed:
because thou, LORD, hast holpen me, and comforted
me.
1 Hear the right, O LORD, attend
unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth
not out of feigned lips.
2 Let my sentence come forth from
thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things
that are equal.
3 Thou hast proved mine heart;
thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me,
and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that
my mouth shall not transgress.
4 Concerning the works of men,
by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the
paths of the destroyer.
5 Hold up my goings in thy paths,
that my footsteps slip not.
6 I have called upon thee, for
thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me,
and hear my speech.
7 Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness,
O thou that savest by thy right hand them
which put their trust in thee from those that
rise up against them.
8 Keep me as the apple of the
eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
9 From the wicked that oppress
me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me
about.
10 They are inclosed in their
own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly.
11 They have now compassed us
in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down
to the earth;
12 Like as a lion that is greedy
of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in
secret places.
13 Arise, O LORD, disappoint him,
cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked,
which is thy sword:
14 From men which are thy hand,
O LORD, from men of the world, which have their
portion in this life, and whose belly thou
fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of
children, and leave the rest of their substance
to their babes.
15 As for me, I will behold thy
face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I
awake, with thy likeness.
24 The disciple is not above his
master, nor the servant above his lord.
25 It is enough for the disciple
that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord.
If they have called the master of the house
Beelzebub, how much more shall they call
them of his household?
26 Fear them not therefore: for
there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed;
and hid, that shall not be known.
27 What I tell you in darkness,
that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear,
that preach ye upon the housetops.
28 And fear not them which kill
the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather
fear him which is able to destroy both soul
and body in hell.
29 Are not two sparrows sold for
a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the
ground without your Father.
30 But the very hairs of your
head are all numbered.
31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are
of more value than many sparrows.
32 Whosoever therefore shall confess
me before men, him will I confess also before
my Father which is in heaven.
33 But whosoever shall deny me
before men, him will I also deny before my Father
which is in heaven.
34 Think not that I am come to
send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but
a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man
at variance against his father, and the daughter
against her mother, and the daughter in law
against her mother in law.
36 And a man's foes shall be they
of his own household.
37 He that loveth father or mother
more than me is not worthy of me: and he that
loveth son or daughter more than me is not
worthy of me.
38 And he that taketh not his
cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39 He that findeth his life shall
lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall
find it.
